17 Things I Learned in 2017

To say the least, this year has been filled with so many ups and downs.  That probably sounds really cliche but in all honesty, 2017 was all over the place.  There was some good, some bad, some ugly, some great, and everything in between.  Through it all I have learned a lot and I look forward to 2018 because I have so many exciting things awaiting.  I saw Kingsley do a video on YouTube discussing the 17 things he learned and I thought that was a really good way to wrap up the year.  So without further ado, here are my 17 things I learned this year.  Please feel free to share whatever you learned in the comments below and if you have any thing you're looking forward to in the new year do tell!

  1. I learned that even when I don't think I'm good enough, God thinks I am enough.  There were so many times that I felt defeated and overwhelmed but when I see myself through God's eyes things become so much better for me.
  2. It's okay to not be okay.  This year was filled with some rough patches and I learned that it's unrealistic to pretend that everything is going well 100% of the time - it's okay to have a bad day.
  3. Saying no is hard but necessary.  Sometimes I don't feel like going out or doing this/that and I have the right to say no if something or someone will interrupt my happiness or peace.  Saying no or I don't want to is tough and sometimes awkward but if saying no is more beneficial then it'll just have to be a no from me. 👎
  4. Social media is not a way to measure my accomplishments.  People only post what they want us to see and just because I'm walking my path in a different way or different time or different pace doesn't mean I'm not walking.  Don't allow the internet to define success for you, be your own kind of successful. 🏆
  5. Memorizing Bible verses comes in handy in times of adversity.  Repeating encouraging verses when I'm going through something really helps me.  I'm actually thinking about making a post dedicated to what verses I like for different situations.
  6. Taking a break from things/people to recollect my peace is okay.  Sometimes you need to be in your own space to get your mind right. 💭
  7. Forcing anything that's not meant for me is stressful and never ends well.  God has a plan for me and when I try to make my own path that doesn't line up with His I'm wasting my time.
  8. Having confidence in myself is a major key *DJ Khaled voice*.  🔑
  9. Enjoying the moments as they are instead of trying to capture everything on camera for social media is so crucial.  Take a moment and enjoy the moment. ⛅
  10. I have to try new things every now and then because sometimes the best opportunities are outside of my comfort zone.
  11. Drinking water, keeping my stress low, and a little bit of highlight is the secret to glowing skin.
  12. As cliche as it sounds, finding the positives in every situation instead of always focusing on the negatives makes the season of stress much better.
  13. Don't overthink everything and spend time stressing over made-up scenarios that will probably never happen.
  14. Cutting off split/dead ends from your hair is such a freeing feeling, 10/10 recommend.
  15. When God gives me a gift, I shouldn't be afraid to use it.  Do all things unto the glory of the Lord and watch the blessings overflow. 🎁
  16. People are precious and life is special.  Try not to take the small things for granted and appreciate people while they are here.  When they are no longer here, spread their light to everyone around you.
  17. Be kind to people.  They may not remember what you said or what you did but they always remember how you made them feel. 💖
No matter how this year went for you, I encourage you to reflect on the lessons you learned.  I'm praying for a new year filled with light, love, happiness, and blessings that overflow.  I don't know about you but I'm excited for 2018 and I can't wait for what's to come for me.  One thing in particular that I look forward to is launching my own website so stay tuned!  Thank you for reading and sticking with me this year as I started my first blog.  Tell a friend to tell a friend to look out for new and improved content in the new year.  I send God's light and love to you and I'll see you in my next post!

All My Love,
Tyler 💜
